- (1908-98)Canadian banker. Born in Montreal, he served with the League of Nations Secretariat in Geneva and later returned to Ottawa. In 1945 he was chairman of the Bretton Woods Conference that created the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He represented Canada on the World Bank and the IMF. In 1961 he became governor of the Bank of Canada.
